WILD THING - Animal Face Match

Privacy Policy

Last updated 29 September 2026 (draft)

The short version

WILD THING looks at your selfie on your phone to find a lookalike animal, just for fun.

Your selfie never leaves your phone. We don’t upload it, store it on a server, or share it with anyone.

WILD THING does not recognise or identify people. It never works out who you are, and it never compares your face with anyone else’s.

We don’t ask for your name, email, phone number, location or contacts. There are no accounts.

We count a few anonymous things (like “a match was made”) and get anonymous crash reports, so we can improve and fix WILD THING. You can switch both off in Settings.

Who we are

WILD THING - Animal Face Match (“WILD THING”) is made by Lauren Parker (ABN 25 681 685 640), Australia. Contact us at admin@wildthingco.net.

What WILD THING handles, and why

Your selfie: used on your phone to measure face shapes (like eye spacing and face roundness) and pick the closest animal. It’s a temporary file on your phone.

Face measurements: simple numbers used only to pick your lookalike animal. They’re kept in the app’s memory while you use it and are gone when you close WILD THING. They are never used to identify you.

Your age group: asked once so we can keep WILD THING right for your age. Only the group (like “8 to 15”), never your birthday. It’s saved on your phone only.

Quiz answers, scores and game records: kept on your phone only, so you can see your best scores.

Purchases: handled by Apple or Google. We only learn which upgrade you bought, never your payment details.

Anonymous usage stats and crash reports: see “Usage stats and crash reports” below.

Support emails: if you email us, we get your email address and whatever you write, and use them only to help you.

How long we keep things

Your selfie is deleted automatically: when you take a new one, when you tap “Delete my photo” in Settings, and at the latest the next time you open WILD THING. If you’re under 16, it’s deleted as soon as you leave WILD THING.

Face measurements are forgotten when you close WILD THING (straight away if you’re under 16). We never keep a face profile and never use selfies or face data to train AI.

Pictures you make to share (like filters and cards) are temporary files that are also cleared automatically.

Scores and game records stay on your phone until you delete WILD THING.

Anonymous usage stats and crash reports are kept by our analytics provider for up to 5 years. Because they can’t be linked to you, they can’t be picked out and deleted.

Support emails are deleted 12 months after your question is sorted out, unless the law says we must keep them longer (for example, records about a refund).

Sharing

Nothing is shared unless you tap Share. When you do, your phone’s own share menu sends it to the app or person you choose.

Challenge codes only contain your animal and match percentage. No photo, name or personal details.

Only share with people you know, and never share photos of other people without asking them first.

Kids and teens

WILD THING is for ages 8 and up. If you’re under 16, a parent or guardian needs to say it’s OK first.

If you’re under 16: your selfie is deleted as soon as you leave WILD THING, and there are no buttons to share or save pictures from the app.

If you’re under 16, usage stats are never sent. If you’re 16 or 17 they start switched off (you can turn them on in Settings).

Everyone under 18 is reminded to ask a parent or guardian before buying anything.

If you’re under 8, please don’t use WILD THING. There’s nothing stored on our side to delete, as nothing leaves the phone.

Usage stats and crash reports

Usage stats: WILD THING counts simple, anonymous events, like “the app was opened”, “a match was made” (and which animal), “something was shared” or “a purchase was completed”. We also count whether this phone has used WILD THING before, as a rough number of days (like “2 to 7 days ago”). The dates themselves never leave your phone.

Crash reports: if WILD THING crashes, it sends what went wrong in the app’s code (the error and where it happened), the app version and the phone’s system version.

Neither ever includes your photo, face measurements, name, email, location, contacts, advertising ID or any device or user ID. They’re used only to improve and fix WILD THING, never for advertising or to build a profile of you.

They’re sent to Aptabase (aptabase.com), which stores them in the European Union. Aptabase briefly uses your internet (IP) address to count visits and then throws it away. It doesn’t keep it.

Usage stats are on by default for adults and off by default for 16 and 17 year olds, and never sent for under 16s. Crash reports are on by default for everyone. Change either any time in Settings › Privacy choices.

Third parties and overseas

WILD THING does not send your selfie or face measurements to any AI service or other company, in Australia or overseas. If that ever changes, WILD THING will tell you clearly before your selfie is sent, say who processes it and how quickly it’s deleted, and ask first.

Anonymous usage stats and crash reports go to Aptabase in the European Union (see above).

Apple and Google process purchases under their own privacy policies. If you email us, your email is stored with our email provider, Microsoft (Microsoft 365).

If this ever changes, we’ll update this policy and ask for your consent first.

Security

Your photo and face measurements never leave your phone, and our usage stats and crash reports are anonymous, so we hold almost nothing about you. Support emails are kept in a password-protected account with two-step sign-in. We still follow a data breach response plan and would tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if a serious breach ever happened.

Your choices and rights

You can delete your photo and results any time in Settings, or everything with Settings › “Delete all my data” (or by removing the app).

You can switch usage stats and crash reports off in Settings › Privacy choices.

You can ask to see, correct or delete anything we hold about you (in practice, only support emails).

You can ask us questions or make a complaint at admin@wildthingco.net. We’ll reply within 30 days.

If you’re not happy with our answer, you can contact the OAIC at oaic.gov.au.
